You’ve made it to Online Trainings… what next?

Filter courses

Use the grey buttons at the top of the page: “Categories”, “CE offered”, and “Sort by” to find a specific course. By default, the courses are sorted newest to oldest.

Enroll in courses

When you’ve found the course you want, click the green “Enroll” button in the bottom right corner. Now you’re on the course page! Click the green “Take This Course” button under that first image of the course title.

Getting started

To start the first lesson, scroll all the way down the page past “About this Course” and “Learning Objectives”. You will see the green heading “Course Content” and the lessons are listed in order below it. Click on the first lesson to begin!

You’ve finished a training but it is not on your Transcript… now what?

Follow-Up Survey

The majority of our trainings come with an optional follow-up survey. Did you complete one? Go to the main page of the training and then scroll all the way to the bottom. Under the lessons listed in “Course Content” check to see if there is a survey, and if that survey has a completion check mark on the left. You can opt out of the survey, but you have to visit that page to complete the course.

Is it a MiVAN Training?

If you found the video on a resource post, then that is not a MiVAN training. Webinars from outside organizations can go on your transcript if you submit a Self-Reported Course form.

Take a Coffee Break

Our transcripts update roughly every 10 minutes. If the course is completely finished but not on your transcript, get up and stretch or eat a snack. It’ll be there when you get back!

151 and Unknown Errors

If you are seeing a 151 or unknown error on YouTube, that error is on the YouTube platform itself (not on MiVAN). The 151 error typically appears when there is some kind of restriction in place. Your agency may have restrictions in place to block YouTube on work computers or their wireless network.

If you are logged into a Google account that is “educational” or an account run by your agency, that could restrict certain YouTube content. The Google admin of your agency could fix this if they have set any restrictions, but if no one else in your office is experiencing this error then that’s likely not the case.

Try viewing these videos on a different internet browser, or after connecting to a different wifi.

Browser Compatibility

If you’re experiencing functionality or display issues, you may want to try a different browser/device from these lists:

  • Firefox (Latest 2 major versions)
  • Google Chrome (Last 2 major versions)
  • Microsoft Edge (Latest 2 major versions)
  • Safari (Latest 2 major versions) – Safari experience of videos and accessibility features may be different than other browsers.

Mobile

  • iOS 12 or higher
  • Android Version 9 or higher

Notice to advocates and MiVAN.org users:

Beginning January 1, 2021, MiVAN.org will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11). After this date, you will not be able to access our website using Internet Explorer, and you will be asked to switch to a supported browser (such as: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari).

Internet Explorer

Why is this happening?

In August 2020, Microsoft announced it would discontinue support for Internet Explorer 11, and would phase out the Legacy Edge browser, in favor of the new Microsoft Edge. While both browsers will continue to operate, no security or performance updates will be issued. This means that if you continue to use either of these browsers, you will begin to have a degraded browsing experience. You may not even realize some websites are not performing at their full potential, which is why it is important to make the switch to an updated browser

What should I do, and what should my agency/organization do?

You should familiarize yourself with the new browser you wish to use, download and install a new browser if necessary, and discontinue using Internet Explorer/Edge Legacy.

For individuals:

  • What browsers should I use in 2021?
  • How to transfer your bookmarks from IE to Chrome
  • How to transfer your favorites/bookmarks from IE to Edge

For organizations:

  • Plan your deployment of Microsoft Edge
  • Read Microsoft’s announcement, “Saying Farewell to Internet Explorer 11”
  • Does your organization require the use of Internet Explorer for some applications? Learn about setting up IE mode on Microsoft Edge.

As always, MiVAN is here to support you. Please contact us for any additional information, or with questions or concerns.
