Stalking in Various Settings
As we approach stalking awareness month, let’s be aware of stalking in different settings so that we can focus on correct prevention and early intervention strategies. This month, we created a compilation of recent resources and trainings focused on stalking: stalking in rural communities, in healthcare, in domestic relationships, and in the workplace. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re looking for more!

Stalking of Healthcare Professionals: A Roundtable Discussion
SPARC
September 2025
“Emerging research shows that healthcare providers – from mental health professionals to nurses and doctors – are at a greater risk for stalking than the general public. This roundtable discussion, led by the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC) as part of its Vital Signs project, features healthcare professionals (including stalking survivors) in dialogue about how stalking may impact healthcare providers in different types of settings, considering challenges and opportunities to better address this underrecognized problem.”

Understanding Domestic Violence: Knowledge Is Empowerment
Hope House and SPARC
January 2025
“For National Stalking Awareness Month 2025, join Julia Holtemeyer, SPARC’s Resource & Training Specialist, and Hope House for a discussion of the definition of stalking, how stalking intersects with domestic violence, how we use the word stalking, how important fear and context are to understanding stalking, and supporting stalking victims.”

Recognizing and Responding to Stalking in the Workplace
Futures Without Violence and SPARC
March 2025
“Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous, and often misunderstood crime. Some stalkers meet their victims through the workplace as colleagues, customers, vendors, or other professional acquaintances. Other stalkers — like intimate partners — may target their victims in multiple locations including the workplace. In partnership with Futures Without Violence, this webinar explores how employers, attorneys, and advocates can identify stalking behaviors, gain understanding about the impacts of stalking on survivors and on the workplace, and support workers who experience stalking in the workplace.”

Health Impacts of Stalking
International Association of Forensic Nurses and SPARC
April 2023
“Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous, and often misunderstood victimization that affects victims’ physical and mental health. Healthcare settings are critical alternative access points to the criminal justice system for victims to disclose and receive care and referrals. This session, presented in tandem with the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) explores the dynamics of stalking, focusing on the highly contextual nature of the crime by discussing common tactics used by perpetrators, the health impacts of stalking, and considerations for healthcare professionals.”

Identifying and Responding to Stalking in Rural Communities
Institute for Coordinated Community Response and SPARC
January 2025
“SPARC joins the Institute for Coordinated Community Response to discuss how to identify and respond to stalking in rural communities. This webinar is for professionals responding to stalking victims and discusses barriers and overcoming them, building a coordinated community response to stalking, identifying risk in stalking situation, and more.”
